Can you use the Kung fu style Baguazhang(pakua chang) in a fight?

Like is it a martial art that wouldn’t be useful in a fighting tournament? Is it like another style like I dunno uhhh northern praying mantis or is it a softer kind of exercise martial art like tai chi?

  1. The Walrus

Ba Gua, specifically is a very useful art. it teaches you to master “circle walking” out maneuvering your opponent. i would LOVE to learn Baguazhang if there was a school near me. it is considered an internal martial art because the goal isnt to meet your opponent with aggression and fire, it to out maneuver him and tire him out and lace your shots while he’s tired and sloppy. also, “Baguaists” (made up word :) are masters of weapons fighting. they are know to be able to turn a branch, a meter stick, a broom, a mop, a chair leg etc into a weapon. it’s one of those arts you have to do for like thirty years before you get good though. the cirlce walking and vital striking takes years to master and more years to flow together. one of my favorite arts out there

they have throws taht rival Judo throws

  2. Yes, each martial art could be as effective as you can make it to be. I studied Wing Chun and realized that Baguazhang and Wing Chun has some similarities such as block and knowing your assaulters economy of energy and striking back.
