Chi/Qi/Ki energy are very real. We all have an “energy feild,” which flows through us and around us, and is controlled by the seven chakras. The mind, body, and spirit are extremely powerful when they are correctly attuned to eachother, which the instructor you spoke of seems to have done, as demonstrated by his muscle strength and telepathy.
As far as using the energy to heal illness, the degree of the healing depends on the person healing, and the recipient of the treatment. Depending on how badly your eyes are damaged, when they were damaged, how they are damaged, etc., they could possibly be healed and restored. With my close friends, I have healed things physical things, such as back pain, and spiritual things, such as chakra imbalances. These were somewhat minor feats, but they show that energy healing is possible.
