Meditating is a way to tune out the daily clutter of our common lives and open ourselves to what is often difficult to discern. If you can meditate out doors is a good way to start. Start by looking around, develop your observations skills. Nothing is really common place is just simply our reaction to things that becomes dull. Have you ever seen the look in the eyes of a young child as he walks in a park, by the beach? There is really so much to discover. Meditating should awake your spirit of wonder and amazement to the harmony and order that surrounds us all. Only we human beings are often out of step, out of tune by ignorance sometimes and sometimes even willfully. We are not programmed like the animals and our freedom of choice is the determining factor in the outcome. Personally I find the certain parts of the Bible very conducive to start meditating. For example the Psalms are a good springboard to launch from. Meditating should calm your mind, and bring out to the fore your spiritual side. Meditating is a journey of discovery. A journey to help you realize your full potential. I guess in a sense creation does not end at birth but now the process continue, and this time you are part of that creative force. Between you and God you are discovering what it really means to be created in His image.
You mentioned that there “are chants and prayers I can say that will help the meditation. What’s the best way?” Simply the best way to start is to have a conversation with God, ask Him for his guidance. His answers always bring peace, calm and sense of well being. He will answer you not necessarily in the form of an audible voice, but often in the form of an inner feeling, a leading a reassurance. Some folks stress meditation as a way to discover one self but that is only half of the picture, because how can you discover anything unless you have a point of reference? So meditation is both the discovery of yourself in relation to God and the discovery of God.
I hope this helps,
Wish you the best

The whole point of meditation is to sit through the boredom or whatever else comes up. If you are looking for some fabulous outcome, you will be disappointed. The whole point is just to watch, whatever comes, rather than constantly letting your thoughts and emotions drive you. you watch them instead. Most people have such resistance to stillness and silence though, they do need music and chants. Still, remember that these are only tools to get you to the point when you can sit quietly. You may try to feel the sensation of the breath at the tip of the nose. When you drift off into thought, come back to the sensation. Watch and feel the breath whether it is shallow or deep. Don’t try to control it. The point is to be fully with whatever is happening rather than trying to avoid or adjust it.
Good luck

You should slowly introduce yourself to it.To train yourself to get to the stage to sit quiet, you should start off first with something that goes little like this: tense your entire body, from head to toe, then relax one body part at a time, head to toe. As you are relaxing take deep breaths. While you are sitting, imagine that you are in a pleasant atmosphere. While you are breathing imagine that you are not only surrounded by beautiful images (something pure that you like , water, grass, flowers, or what ever), breath in and out, imagine that you are breathing in a certain color (check out info on color therapy), and blow out a negative color, until you feel that all the negative is all out, and inside you have positive. If you are visualizing a nature scene, then get a tape with the natural selections that you are visualizing… I think this would be the easiest way to start… Best of wishes!

I think that this is largely a matter of … What works for you? Try different things and check results. AND … An open and honest heart is the one real necessity. Other than that I don’t think there is a cut and dry answer to your question. But … Things like music, lighting, essential oils, breathing techniques, incense, body position, chanting or singing can all help put the individual into a receptive mood or state. But that goes back to it being an individual thing. Good luck in searching.

watch…set and examine your thoughts.. if some of them are so silly or real wicked.. ponder if they are yours or if they are just visiting.. if so.. may be all your thoughts are just tine part of you, and the mind is a house of imaginative games for your enjoyment… well, after all have been said and done.. if you are not the mind then how the hell are you.. with such question.. one can meditate the whole day without any candles or massage oil..
