The Hindu’s have practiced meditation for over four thousand years.Also most ancient religious ceremonies had some forms of meditation in them, the tribes Shaman would use meditation to put himself in a trance to speak with their Gods.Meditation has been practiced for well over ten thousand years.

  5. Yes. Buddha merely followed the footpath of the earlier sages.

    In Hinduism there is a time for everything. Even the kings went to the forest to meditate after they realized that they have done what they could, after handing over the reins to the next generation..

    Even ‘Worldly living’ (having wife and family) was part of the meditation and is one of the processes that takes a man to meditation and Nirvana :-)

    Yes. There were a number of Brahmin hermits, Hindu ascetic & Vedic monks and Yoga masters (Yogi’s) all advocating meditation. The Buddha studies with several masters from many of these tradition’s.
