  1. I wouldn’t recommend Windsor Pilates for weight loss. I think it is great for those wanting to strengthen their core muscles and become more flexible, but as a weight loss tool, I’d disagree.

Weight loss is about taking in fewer calories than you burn. Pilates probably burns 200 – 300 an hour. Maybe. 3500 calories equals one pound. So if you do 14 to 17 sessions you’ll lose one pound (if you don’t change anything else).

If you can, I’d recommend you start walking and progress to jogging. Or get on a bike. Even trail walking is great exercise. These guys burn calories (running burns about 100 per mile), elevate your rate and increase your metabolism. Some even burn calories after you are done exercising. Pilates does so too, but to a lesser extent. You may also want to consider purchasing a cheap weight set (some simple dumbbells).

Also, use a tool like http://www.fitday.com to track your calories and how much activity you do. You want about 300 – 500 calorie deficit per day. Never consume less than 1500 calories.

Those are my tips / suggestions. I think pilates is fine but I haven’t heard of too many success stories. Ultimately, weight loss is achieved through hard work, a sensible diet and sweat.
