Maybe you strained it, if it feels sort of twisted, it’s probably a strain, if it feels as though you’ve got a lump you should go and see your doctor. Could you go and speak to a chemist (pharmacist) about it maybe?

Sounds a lot like muscle sprain. Relax and move your body and arm to a position were you feel the pain acutely. Look at the position your in and that is the close to the position you were in as you hurt it.

Everyone who’s answered so far has been right about it probably being a muscle strain. When you have a muscle strain, you MUST stop the offending activity or it will never be given the chance to heal — you’ll just keep re-injuring the muscle each time you perform the activity. So, until the muscle heals (which should take 4-6 weeks), you need to take it fairly easy. Do only very mild exercises that require no sudden movements or twisting motions of your back. In the meantime, for a week or so, use alternating ice and heat (20 minutes at a time) two to three times a day. Ice will decrease inflammation and heat will relax the muscle. Taking aspirin is also a good idea because aspirin is an anti-inflammatory agent, which will decrease the muscle inflammation that’s causing the pain. From a nutritional basis, avoid red meat and dairy products until the pain eases up — those two items cause increased muscle inflammation. If you do these things, you should be fine in a fairly short period of time.
I work in orthopedic medicine and I’ve had the same type of injury in the past (your symptoms sound exactly like mine were). I’m giving you the same advice that my doctor and physical therapist gave me.
