Should’nt Buddhist monks in their Shaolin temples and Buddhist-converts be honing their kung-fu for a showdown with Islamists? If Islam has the suicide bombers, Buddhism has kung-fu… i think that’s a good match-up, dont you agree?

Obviously the main argument that we have (yes I’m a Christian) against any other religion is that if Jesus Christ is not one’s Lord and savior, they cannot reach Heaven. But what in particular about Buddhism rubs Christianity the wrong way, so to speak? For instance, is there anything to be said about meditation, chanting, etc that is detrimental to one’s soul from a Christian point of view? The religion is a peaceful one, certainly, so does it not get points for that? Of course Buddhists would argue that it is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, known religion. What do Christians say to that? I’m intrigued what others have to say, because my girlfriend is a practicing Buddhist.

What advice would you give to someone on a journey toward general Buddhist spiritual practices such as Tai Chi, meditation and martial arts?

this isn’t just a dumb stoner question, either. do buddhist scriptures or stories about buddha mention marijuanna use? did people in buddha’s time smoke pot? did buddha himself, before or after enlightenment? do any buddhists agree that it is a good tool for meditation?
just responding to student for life…weed doesn’t act the same way for everyone; when i smoke it i get extra aware. sure, it makes some people seem dumb, but if used for a purpose it can have the opposite effect. personally, it helps me to concentrate and it never really “clouds” my mind, and some of my best ideas and revelations have come to me while high. anyway, thanks for the input.
