What is Tai-chi? Is it Chinese equivalent to Indian Yoga, by any chance?

What are its benefits at physical and mental levels?

Any information is welcome!
I must admit Pocko, I’m impressed by the diversity of your knowledge base…
Dear achen: Its heartening to know that you are making full use of all resources available at your end. No wonder you have such a positive approach towards life! As for me, I (occasionally) practice yoga…with equally good results…various aasanas keep the body supple and meditation soothes the nerves. The resultant energy helps keep the spirits high! Not a regular though…I admit sheepishly!

My brother is being intolerable?

Hi, for the past 2 weeks my brother has been in the worst mood ever. He is 10 years older than me and my mom and I live with him. He has yelled at me and yelled at me and yelled at me and busted my chops every chance he got for the past 2 weeks. Usually he comes home after I got to bed from teaching Tai Chi, which should make you clam. But last night he started yelling at me for not knowing the exact address of my firends birthday party spot that is not until tonight, when we have the invitation on the fridge. I told him I did not remember, all I could remember was it was at the Imperial Hotel. My mom tried to get him to stop, but he kept at it. Then I asked him for an opinion on something and he growled at me that I need my own opinions and I should think for myself, which I do. Since when did opinions mean you were not an independent thinker? I just value his opinion a lot because I look up to him. My dad is not in my life and I think he has this feeling that he has to be my dad, but he doesn’t. He has to be my brother, but he is starting not to act like it. How can I tell him that I don’t appriciate the way he is treating me without being rude or appearing rude? Also what can I do if he keeps doing this? Thanks!

Which martial arts would be best for me?

I’ve been wanting to get back into martial arts, but I wanted to take one that will help me defend myself in real life situations not these flashy gimmicky ones that show you super fancy moves that you would never get the chance to actually do in a real fight.

Now they say most fights end up on the floor, so I was looking into Brazilian jujitsu which looks nice but I don’t want to depend on having to knock a guy down to work my magic. I’m a fairly small guy. 5’5 150 lbs

I tried karate around 2 years ago but it wasn’t for me, the whole wasting time on “kata” crap wasn’t for me, plus I felt it was too straightforward. I prefer things with more finese. Pressure points, joint locks and stuff sound pretty cool. Though I’d prefer to end it as quickly as possible.

I’ve been told to check out Krav Maga, Hapkido, Kung fu and Ninjutsu schools in my area but I was wondering how effective those would be in real life situations?

Question for Taekwondo Practicioners ???

I will be participating in several Taekwondo tournaments this year which will be mostly sparring. Even if you know how to block, is there still a 50/50 chance of receiving a knockout kick to the head ??? Even when wearing headgear equipment, can a kick to the head cause a significant amount brain swelling or even worse hemorraging, depending on how hard the kick was ???
