I’m a red belt in Taekwondo but we haven’t done any contact
My Taekwondo club requires me to get shin guards for training and I’m wondering if I should get them with instep protection. So far we have not done any contact sparring in my new club.
I wouldn’t want to put up with stiff and uncomfortable feet unless its crucial.

I’ve been trying some some meditations and got results but was wondering about more direct contact.

I am practicing kung fu. When we spar, it’s without pads. All we wear is a cup, and if we’re going full contact, a mouthpiece. IMO, this is the best way to train. You don’t learn how to take a hit unless you get hit. Does anyone agree with me? Yes or no, why? And, finally, what do you study, and why?
Don’t have a video. Study at Song Hauk Kung Fu academy in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Polishgirl: You mean there’s someone in Arkansas who teaches Shorin Ryu? Have you ever heard of Mike Stone? My dad trained in Shorin Ryu with Mike as his teacher.
