is taekwondo good for self defence?

i only have one school near me that teaches some form of self defence and thats taekwondo. the man is a 7th dan blackbelt and i went to my first class a few days ago. i was surprised at how hard he worked beginners. towards the end of the class he taught us two self defence moves if we were being attacked from behind (the attacker grabbing you from the neck behind). he showed us two effective moves to escape the situation including what you would do if you were being dragged backwards at the same time. this is the only kind of class like this near me until the city and it is conveniently located as well a s fun to attend, while still building my confidence and strength. is it good for self defence in a real life situation?
thanks

black belts? Taekwondo,karate etc.?

well I’ve noticed that my Tkd teacher’s black belt has hes name in English and then in Korean hes a 3rd dan and its got this other stuff on it that i haven’t got to look at and it says fully registered black belt on this belt chart at my dojang and other martial arts use the dans as well i want to know what do they register to? and i plan to cross over to karate once im a black belt in TKD and lets say your a black belt in TKD and you just started your first day of karate and your sensei says “do you have any previous experience in martial arts?” and you reply “yea im a blck belt in TKD” and i want to know is this going to cause negative reactions to other students and is this teacher gonna give me a different treatment as in can you help >blah< with hes kicks and i don't want that to happen so what can i do?

Best exercise to supplement Taekwon-do training?

I started practicing Wado Ryu Karate about two years ago. Since that particular dojo wasn’t very good, I decided to take up WTF Taekwon-do from an internationally recognised (and very good) 6th dan instructor about 10 months ago. I love practicing, and I’d really like to become good. With that I mean, really good. Competition level good. I started pretty late (Karate at 16, Taekwon-do at 17, now 18) but I think I’ll be able to gain in on my lost time.

Now that you know a little bit about my background information, I was wondering if any of you could tell me which low-cost exercises (not requiring equipment. Such as running, swimming, shadowsparring, etc) would best complement my Taekwon-do training? I already started running/jogging but I’m not sure if it’ll help with what I want.

Thank you very, very much.

For Taekwondo Practicioners ???

After three years off from Taekwondo, I’am back again to resume training. I’am currently an Intermediate red belt. The next rank I have to test for is Advanced Red Belt and then finally Chodan/1st Dan. I’am very dedicated to the art and I really want to succeed and train hard to achieve the rank of 1st Dan.

How many days a week would you recommend training ??? Two, three, four or more ???
