how do you root yourself to the ground on both legs when you punch?

In kung-fu as well as other martial arts styles, you root yourself to the ground on both feet and twist your hips and punch. Say if I’m in a 50/50 stance (50% of weight on one leg and 50% of the other) I can’t feel the root on my legs and feet. I feel that the root is more right down between my legs and feet. Same thing applies to the bow stance and horse stance.

In contrast, in boxing, where you root on one leg only and pivot the other, you can feel the connection to the ground on that one leg.

But in kung-fu with two legs trying to root, you can’t feel the root. It’s more down the center between your legs and feet.

What are your opinions on UFC?

I personally beleive while it offers a decently fair fight for most fighters it still impairs kung fu as well as some other styles because they dont let you claw grab or hit the dangerous areas (two things kung fu trains in alot). They also make alot of kung fu moves illegal. What are your thoughts on this? I personally think that if your a ground fighter or a striker its a fair fight but in kung fu they cut off a whole facet of your style.
I didnt say I was purley a kung fu fighter. I do 4 different styles of kung fu, jujitsu , muy thai, and tai chi
to the guy who responded 3rd the fact is that even though the guy cant use it either alot of a kung fu / military (they tend to use the more deadly shots) fighters spend alot more of their time training on those moves so its like they basicly just took off an entire branch of your style handicapping you in a way your oponent is not. My main point is that UFC doesnt alot any of the eagle or tiger claw techniques to be used. Which is rediculous as the eagle claw isnt even life threatening unless the fighter uses it in that manner and is mainly used to paralyze the fighter more than anything to get him into better joint locks
Also I know all about mcdojos and I dont go to them. I do all the kinds of trainins you should and my Sifu has been a world champion in international competitions more than once. Hes a 6th degree black belt and was trained by the grandmaster of our style as well as training with very skilled BJJ and muy thai fighters as well so I dont go to some mcdojo or anything like that and you really shouldnt try to force your point across by saying somebodies entire training was poorly done when in reality you dont even know how they train
well i for one train to use the deadly strikes in a more realistic manner. I do 2 things. First when im learning the technique I’ll practice it on one of those wave master style maniquins. Then I practice on a person and just dont finish the technique.
To the 6th poster

Well he didnt really say anything that i didnt respond to in my couple paragraphs. all he said was that kung fu uses to many lethal techniques to be used in a sport. We train in a specific way and then at the tournament we are just convieniantly told that half of our style is considered illegal to use even though alot of the clawing techniques can be llethal but are mainly used to control the oponent.
Also he didnt say anything bad about kung fu. The reason they got beat so badly is really 2 reasons. Alot of kung fu fighters dont blend their style to fight on the ground. While standing they are good but on the ground they dont know what they are doing (That is if you dont mix your martial arts like I do) . The 2nd is they outlaw most of your techniques because they are “potentialy lethal” even though a good punch or kick can be lethal 2. That is like a kick boxer going against a boxer in a boxing match. Sure you can fight with your hands but half your style is out the window and alot of the time you link the 2 making even more of your style gone

They are way to strict with those rules. First of all I think that they should because even though they could die it is by their own choice and it would prove who is truly the better fighter. It couldnt be like the greek gladiators where they killed him when they were done but if you get a hit in the throat I dont think it should be illegal. Also I was saying how they outlaw alot of claws and how the MMA gloves make that clawing a huge pain already. Because of these competitions a bunch of morons who dont know what they are talking about go around thinking they know what kung fu is and thinking its crap which annoys the hell out of me
Also one of the things that tend to give kung fu a bad name (mainly due to the practitioners fault) is that the fighters rarely mix styles. Which really wouldnt be a prob if they it taught ground fighting ,which most kung fu styles dont
Hey chuck um was that directed at me?
well honestly I look at it as more of a discusion than just an answers thing. I dont need to justify me time I spent learning my style I just wanted to have a conversation with people hear what they thought and reply so on and so on.

Taking Taekwondo, looking for a ground game.?

I started taking taekwondo recently…it seems like it would work ok standing up, but if a fight were to go to the ground, there are big weaknesses in this MA. I was thinking of studying another MA, I know BJJ is good for ground, which others would be good to go with TKD.

name the old school kung fu movie that has 4 old masters on pogo sticks. they beat the brakes off of people?

they never touch the ground. help me please. I saw this film on the U.S.A network about twenty years ago. it was on black belt theater. help….

Should I Quit Or Stay?

Okay I am currently studying Shaolin Kung Fu. I think my studio is okay, but feel uncomfortable with some of their traditions such as kneeling -with both knees on the ground- and having them but a belt on you. I dont think of it a sexual, just demeaning to kneel like that. I have like 7 other schools near me, and my friends go to all different schools. Some are in mine, but idk if no friends are at a new school, ill make new more. So, Should I Quit Or Stay?
