How effective is Hapkido?

I’m looking to get back into martial arts and there’s a place in my small town that offers to teach Hapkido,Tae Kwon Do, Tai Chi, and Kung Fu. So my question is how effective is Hapkido for self defense? Is it practical? Is there an emphasis on actual fighting, like would I get to practice with a real person who will move and fight back as opposed to just breaking boards or useless crap like that.

I did judo for 3 years and I’m looking for something similar to that, but there’s no Jujutsu places nearby. There’s a BJJ places about an hour away, but I want something that teaches ground and standing fighting.

Thanks.
Yuck. Okay some research shows Hapkido doing stupid flying kicks and other stuff that I don’t have any interest in learning. So if there’s a martial art that can teach me how to fight, and won’t waste time learning stupid high kicks, it’d be nice to know about it. Thanks.

How do you find legit martial arts instructors?

By legit i mean instructors who are actually good at the martial arts and know what theyre doing. I know a good way would be to go to a couple classes but it could be hard to tell by just a couple classes. The reason i ask is i have been practicing hapkido for 3 years, and i want to broaden my experience and learn Kung Fu and Tai Chi as well. i know this could be hard to fit all three classes in but its something i really want to do so how does one choose a good instructor?

i want to do hapkido but i am also doing taekwondo?

hapkido looks great and seems a more realistic martial art to undertake for self defence than taekwondo. i am enjoying taekwondo but i would love to do hapkido as well. however, i dont think i’ll have enough time since i work 4 times a week, i have lots of homework from school and i take taekwondo once a week on saturday. i dont think i could juggle everything to make it fit so what can i do?
