My 5 year old son is small for his age. Any ideas for sports or activites?

We have him in Soccer now, but he has a kidney disease and has a hard time keeping up with the other kids. I want to give him a hobby that will enhance his self esteem without having to necessarily compare his strength or speed with other kids. I was thinking of Karate classes. Any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated! We live in Northern California. Thanks!
Please no rude answers insuinating that I’m not taking my son’s feelings into consideration. I’m going to talk with him about what he wants to do OF COURSE, but I’d like to be armed with ideas should he ask me what his options are. And again, I said sports OR activities – I’m not looking for just sport related ideas. Thanks again for all the great ideas already. I appreciate it! :)

Is it too late to have a hobby?

I am 17 and till now I havent stuck to a particlar hobby all my life. I have done several things like karate, yoga, drama and cross country but I have never done anything for more than few months. Its not that I am fickle but these were all short term programs. This day I saw these friends of mine on stage dancing and after that I saw them smiling proudly when everybody was congratulating them. I really wanna do something like that, join some sports or dance class but I have a feeling that I wont be able to do it for too long as I will be going to university and then when I complete my post secondary education, I will be like 23 and then you know I wont be able to do it for long

Which hobby/activity do you think is best to pursue: fast math, memorization, meditation, or Qigong?

I’m trying to decide which of the hobbies/activities I should take up next as a self-improvement project:

1) Fast Math – learn how to do basic math calculations fast in my head

2) Memorization – learn techniques to memorize stuff, like large lists, people’s names, numbers, etc.

3) Meditation – learn basic meditation techniques to help control stress and calm the body

4) Qigong – a slow-moving, gentle martial art kind of like Tai Chi, to help maintain flexibility and health

I like aspects of each one, so I’m having trouble deciding which to pursue.

Which one would you do? Why?

Is this a good paragraph?

Everyone has special interests, ranging from such a diverse activities as ballroom dancing to martial arts. For some people, the practice of martial arts is a good physical exercise, mental exercise and an excellent program for developing discipline. Moreover, martial artists enjoy martial arts because this sport is actually a way of life, diligently practiced day after day. Several hundreds of years ago, the Japanese developed martial art forms to protect themselves against the invading forces of China. Martial arts then developed as a sport throughout the world, becoming a hobby for many people, in the form of different styles. For example, some people often enjoy practicing Tae kwon do, whereas others like to practice Okinawa Karate and still others practice Tai chi. Martial arts is practiced as a discipline since it brings mental health as well as physical conditioning. Furthermore, participating in this sport during leisure time never becomes a tiring, routine activity; instead, the practice of these sports always sustains a “new car smell” for the practitioner. Finally, this sport creates an adrenaline rush, which enthralls the “6” senses, and makes time fly by. Who would not want such a healthy and exciting hobby?
