Which martial arts would be best for me?

I’ve been wanting to get back into martial arts, but I wanted to take one that will help me defend myself in real life situations not these flashy gimmicky ones that show you super fancy moves that you would never get the chance to actually do in a real fight.

Now they say most fights end up on the floor, so I was looking into Brazilian jujitsu which looks nice but I don’t want to depend on having to knock a guy down to work my magic. I’m a fairly small guy. 5’5 150 lbs

I tried karate around 2 years ago but it wasn’t for me, the whole wasting time on “kata” crap wasn’t for me, plus I felt it was too straightforward. I prefer things with more finese. Pressure points, joint locks and stuff sound pretty cool. Though I’d prefer to end it as quickly as possible.

I’ve been told to check out Krav Maga, Hapkido, Kung fu and Ninjutsu schools in my area but I was wondering how effective those would be in real life situations?

Taekwondo compliment?

What would be a martial art that would compliment someone who has done Tae Kwon Do for 6 years? I am a black belt, and quite good at sparring because I like to move around a lot, but I realize that Tae Kwon Do isn’t very effective in real life situations.

I’m 16 years old, quite flexible, very strong upper body, and can kick very high with ease. So what would be a good new martial art to take up with this base, that would round me out as a fighter?
I’m also 174cm tall and 63kg if it helps in making a recommendation

Want to train in martial art again?

Am I too old “42″ I use to do it years ago Tae kwon do kung fu kick boxing. The problem is I’ve been training at a club with my son sparring and I have found the students are soft. Which I believe you practice like you play in real time situation. Well I was sparring with a 3rd degree black belt and put him on the ground twice 1n 5 minutes and he left the floor and wined to the teacher. Which I’ve trained in the past alot but I’m 42 in decent shape have’nt trained in martial arts in 15 years he was half my age “what is the deal”. But that is not the only incident it I hit real hard and i don’t get hurt easily and it seems like the students are afraid of me and I’ve tried to spar with the instructors but they keep telling me they can’t. What are these students going to do in the street in a real life situation “did I mention I’m 5’10 230llbs so I’m really not that intimidating” How do I find a place that is serious about real life situations and will let me spar where people can takeit

Kung Fu, or Aikido?

well I may start one of these martial arts sometime in the near future and I need help choosing one. [please no "it depends on your own personal style" I want your personal opinions] I understand that these are 2 completely different arts but, I have dojo’s for both near me and don’t know which to choose. I believe the kung fu style practiced in the kungfu place is mantis?, the kungfu place teaches a variety of chinese MA [wushu] like tai chi. I’m not sure on the style that the aikido place teaches. Basically I want the one that’s a.)Fun and b.) Useful in real life situations. If either of those usually has any katanna training or other weapons training that Is a plus [I do understand that aikido is japanese and kung fu is chinese so kung fu would most likely not use katana's]. [also I want one a little more advanced than songham taekwondo] ok please tell me your opinions, sorry if this was confusing! Oh yes I also would like one that’s good exercise lol.
