I do taekwondo and hapkido. What do you do? What is your favorate? What belt are you and what do you learn? What sort of philosophy do you learn? Is your master hard on you? What is the best and worse part of your martial art?

Why do i see 10 year olds or 14 or 16 year olds with black belts, second degree blackbelts,, or even higher. I have a feeling these american karate instructors are using belts in order to attract customers, but karate is a life process, they can’t possibly master the true essence of karate in just 4 years or something..and certainly at 16 a master…without having had maturity? I will consider a master at 40 or 50, after years of training and developing spiritually not at 10 years old.

I had my first Kung Fu class last Tuesday, but, as I haven’t worked out in 3 years, I didn’t do too much. I must say the Master was patient, but still…..
I have been through horrible leg pain ever since….The stances require that we stand in a crotched position, if I am expressing myself correctly (English not my first language), and I also was slipping a lot because of the floor and had to flex my inner thigh muscles very much, to prevent myself from falling.
Anyway…..point is, it’s been almost a week, I didn’t even go to Tai Chi class, because I literally couldn’t even descend stairs or climb without cutting my breath in pain….and still the same.
What can I do to get rid of this pain and relax my muscles as quick as possible? Because I need to go train again, I can’t sit aside like this forever.
Thank you for your time!

I was really excited to see the Human Weapon guys finally doing a show on taekwondo, but I was completely disgusted when the one Master had Jason and Bill hold unlit cigarettes in their mouths so he could demonstrate his control by kicking them out of their mouths. Why didn’t he just use straws? Why cigarettes? And (presuming that both hosts are non-smokers) why did they actually agree to put those in their mouths? I’ve always associated TKD and virtually all martial arts with good health and fitness, so I was really disappointed that Master Yang would choose to make any kind of use of cigarettes as part of his demo routine. Just curious as to whether or not anyone else feels the same way?
