What martial art suits me?

(guy) I’m really flexible and I have good balance. I don’t play sports, except for volleyball. I play chess (I have to make a strategy for everything). I’m kind of lanky also. I prefer a martial arts that focuses on discipline and peace. Also, I’d try to either get my opponent off balance or weaken them first, rather than going for the kill.

To me, my top martial arts that suit me are Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Aikido, or Hapkido. What do you think?

taekwondo bashing; agree or disagree?

who is tired of everybody bashing taekwondo all the time??? sure its not an overall martial art and some of the techniques arent practical but some of you people make it sound as if EVERY technique in taekwondo is useless and going to do more damage to you than to your opponent. also, apparently according to the bashers taekwondo is the only martial art that has mcdojos. EVERY martial art has mcdojos, it’s just that it’s the most popular in the u.s. so of course there are more mcdojos than any other martial art there are more legitimate schools too!
almost all of you had really good answers; i cant decide. I’ll leave it up to the vote.

Tao says dont resist, dont use force. Putting this into psychology, I dont see how we can improve ourselves?

I recently learnt about Tai-Chi, a Chinese martial arts which says dont use resistance or force against your opponent. I have tried to apply the same in psychology and found out a similar thing. The subconscious bounces back the efforts of conscious if you force things onto subconscious. Then how do we make any real progress without forcing ourselves. Do we have to let fate choose what we are? I observed that, to acheive something I had to force myself, though I sometimes give up. But without force I absolutely dont see how I can improve myself?

Muay Thai or Wing Chun for self defense?

I have done Taekwondo or 3 years, but high flashy kicks are not very convenient as I may be cold, have bad pants or be close to the opponent.

I have been doing research on Wing Chun for some months. I have learned the first form just for general knowledge when choosing a school. Wing Chun really attracts me with it’s scientific fighting and speed plus being street practical.

But lately I have seen some videos and many comments on Muay Thai, and it seems very practical since it is uncorrupted with flashy moves, “traditional” training methods and trains hard giving more confidence.

Finding a good Wing Chun school is hard since many of them get carried away with the “soft” side and Muay Thai seems to attract alot of the hooligan “gangster” types. Which one should I do?

Please include in your answer advice on finding a school(for example, how do I tell the hooligans from the good muay thai guys?).
