Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, which is the best option for someone that’s young but out of shape?

Coming from Florida, this past winter was my first real winter, and I’ve gotten pretty soft around the middle and my things have gotten bigger. A very noticeable difference from what I looked like before. I feel like I have no stamina and am out of shape from lack of activity for so long. What is a reasonable exercise program that I might enjoy, stick with, and see some results from?

I don’t realistically see myself doing more than 30 minutes of routine exercise per day to start out with.

Pilates is a particularly safe and effective exercise system which aims to strengthen the body in a balanced way by specifically improving the function of the weaker muscle groups. Emphasis is placed on strengthening the muscles of the trunk so that support of the spine increases plus posture and shape improve. The exercises enhance overall flexibility and fitness, improving co-ordination and balance. Muscles are gently stretched and lengthened as the exercises progress and overall body strength improves.

Why could I run more before?

I’ve been working out for about a month and now my stamina is worse than when I started. I used to be able to run about 5 miles in just over an hour. Now I have a hard time running 45 minutes without stopping. I eat probably a little less than when I started and I lift weights and do yoga sometimes too. Why is this?

How do I motivate myself to exercise?

I am not overweight, but I am out of shape – I have no energy and no stamina. I’d like to start doing pilates again a few times a week, and jogging as well.

But how can I motivate myself to do this, especially now that the weather is getting yucky?
