What is your favorite horse stance?

There are seemingly infinite varieties of horse stance, each one with unique attributes. I find the stances capacity to build chi truly beautiful, and the strength found in practice most excellent.

I have practiced several kinds of horse stance, the one that I am now attempting is one of northern kung fu, with feet pointing straight forward, one and a half shoulder widths apart with thighs perfectly parallel to the ground, so that one may lay a staff across the thighs without it roiling off. All this with a back and head as straight as if one were standing. It is giving me great difficulty, my hips lack some flexibility.

This got me wondering about other peoples experience with horse stances. How far are the feet? How low is the stance? What feels best for building qi? Some stances look nice but lack are lacking, some are quite high (as is common with taoist styles) some are quite wide (as with southern styles). Which is best for chi building.

Just for interesting discussion, I do not think there is necessarily a “right” or “best” answer. I would, however, like to take into considerations my fellows experiences and recommendations.

What Martial Art Inspired Rock Lee’s 1-handed stance(From Naruto)?

Excluding the obviously Anime martial arts you find he often does which are impossible for humans there is an obvious Kung fu influence in his arts, while alot of his kicks we used to do in Tae kwon Do… so i was wondering if anyone know where that signature 1 hand infront of the body stance he uses came from.
It’s not druken fist though because he’s only supposed to use drunken fist in the series when hes drunk. he is seen making this motion when he’s sober

how do you root yourself to the ground on both legs when you punch?

In kung-fu as well as other martial arts styles, you root yourself to the ground on both feet and twist your hips and punch. Say if I’m in a 50/50 stance (50% of weight on one leg and 50% of the other) I can’t feel the root on my legs and feet. I feel that the root is more right down between my legs and feet. Same thing applies to the bow stance and horse stance.

In contrast, in boxing, where you root on one leg only and pivot the other, you can feel the connection to the ground on that one leg.

But in kung-fu with two legs trying to root, you can’t feel the root. It’s more down the center between your legs and feet.
