Since Ultimate Fighting (UFC) came to the forefront, isn’t it time that we admit that all these so-called…

“martial arts” (kung fu, karate, aikido, etc) have been exposed as the frauds they are? Any reasonably competent UFC fighter would completely “own” a purist karate “master” or a kung fu practitioner in a street fight, don’t you think?
Oh, come on people. You gonna tell me that you know any purist kung fu or karate master that would take Chuck Liddell in a street fight?
Hey, “thepaladin.” I understand your point about Bruce Lee, but he was what – 80 pounds soaking wet? And heavy bags don’t move… or fight back.
OK… Y’all have beaten me into submission. lol… I guess the question was poorly worded. What I was getting at is – don’t you think a skilled MMA (UFC) fighter would pretty much dominate a purist of any another art IF it came down to a one-on-one, no-weapons-allowed street brawl?
Quicksilver… Believe me, it gives me NO pleasure to ask this question. My own brother is a 6th degree black belt in Aikido, and has his own dojo. I’ve had some training in Karate, but not enough to be a significant force… My main thing is an overwhelming desire NOT to lose, and raw, brute force punching power.

Best martial art for a real life street fight?

I was wondering what would be the best martial art to study for defence and offence against the average ‘thug’ i am 14 and tall enough for my age and are quite agile. Also when would be a good time to stop fighting if the opponent is losing and when to run away.I was thinking of taking Taekwondo or Jeet Kune Do,thanks in advance
Its not adults that are the problem its the wanna be hard teenagers

are most martial arts even effective?

just answered a question about this and gave my opinion.. now i want u to consider 2 things… 1, would the art be effective in a street fight… 2, would it be effective in mma…

now im talking about the martial arts u see on the kung fu movies… like kung fu, kendo, tai chi, ect…. the crazy “ninja type arts” lolz… hopefully u get the picture..

well my thoughts are that most the arts aren’t effective… i think only the basics have proven effectiveness both on the streets and mma. boxing, muey thai, kickboxing for stand up… wrestling,BJJ,judo for ground fighting… other then that the others are kinda pointless no??? i mean theres little things u can take from other arts and put it into your fighting but other then that stick to the basics have proven themselfs time and time again.

as bruce lee once said, a guy who trains in wrestling for 3 years could defeate a man who trained and mastered kung fu or something like that…

basicaly he wanted to make a system that was effective unlike more the other arts… youre thoughts?

What martials should I do?

Am 16 years old and between 5″ – 6″(don’t really know my height or weight). I am skinny but not flexible. I work very hard when it comes to improving something. I did boxing for 4 months but moved here but am thinking of trying a different martial arts.(going to gym soon) but have a lot of stamina (am in the athletics club).I have recently been interested in martial arts but don’t know what one to do because there a lot of them near my area.I like the belt system they use in karate because I make a goal like achieve a red belt by 6 months etc. I was gonna visit the martial arts ones that are in my area but I figure it would take too long. So, what do you guys recommend I should do. I want an martial where it can help me in a street fight (fighting multiple people etc.) and also maybe some weapon handling. I would like to spar with people to see how much I progressed. I an martial arts where mainly I will like meet people in my age so I can spar make friends, rivals etc. I wouldn’t mind joining tournaments and stuff like that. I just want something I can mainly focus on achieving like self discipline and things like that.
These are some of the martial arts that are in my area:
Akido
Boxing
Capoeria
Tai chi
Karate(Shotakan and Kyoushin)
Kenpo
Kung fu
Kick boxing
Tae Kwon Do
Jiu jutsu (BBJ too)
Wushu
Judo
Shaolin way
Wing chun (kinda far away)

I’ll leaven up to you guys what do you think thanks. (sorry for my spelling and my paragraphs not making sense i apologise).

if your a martial artist and you don’t spare on a weekly bases do you really beleif that your moves will work

what i am saying is there are alot of us don’t spare 2times a week and act like we will survive a street fight when we know that most of are move are not base in a relilistic setting. the odd of some grabbing are slim . i guess what iam is traditional martial arts don’t work unless it is your whole life . simplicety is the key.just don’t thing that most understand that karate ,kung fu , tae kwon do , judo, jujitsu, akiado, and almost of the others where made in countries where everyone did martial arts here in america those rule do not aply. and in light of the many tourments martailarts is no longer a underground SO WHAT IAM ASKING IS HOW CAN THE AVAERGE MARTIAL ARTS DECIADE IF HE/SHE IS WAISTING THERE TIME LEARNING THE OLD WAYS IF THEY DON’T TEST THEM OUT WEEKLY .
I AM A MARTIAL ARTIST . I PRACTISE KENPO AND MAUY THAI . I GUESS I AM TIRE OF HEARING OTHER MARTIAL THAT NEVER BEEN IN ONE REAL FIGHT ACT LIKE THEY AREBRUC LEE. P.S . I HAVE BEEN IN SEVERAL FIGHT IN WHICH THE MAUY THAI TRAINING CAME IN MORE USEFUL THEN THE KENPO
