Do you think that judges should be allowed to judge kata in styles they don;t have a clue about? An example is a judge who does Karate judging a tai-chi form.
I realize that at most tournaments the tournament staff is basically at the mercy of having to use what ever black belts show up as the judges. However there is no excuse for having judges sit and judge arts that are so different from what they have training in that they really don;t know what they are looking at. I’ve seen this many times. The judges will sit there and act as if they know what they are doing. Having been around the martial arts for many years It really makes me angry to see this happen. I have been asked to judge things that I did not feel qualified to judge. In such cases, I have declined and asked to be replaced. I imply will not sit and pretend I know something I do not. It is not fair to the competitors.
Several good answers here. I agree with a lot of what I see here. John mentioned another of my pet peeves about judging. I really think that all divisions should have five judges per ring. That is important for kata and Kumite. How many times I have seen someone get robbed in Kumite because there were less than five judges.
Im not sure what to do to get myself to the point where my form is the strongest.
I always do a short run (usualy 15 minutes) and stretch for about 45 minutes , I dont know if anyone has tried this but it increases the hell out of your agility. Now after I do that is where Im kinda not sure what to do. I think I should do a little strength training to get my muscles reved up and go through my forms a couple times. Im not sparring as I have an injury that I dont want to make worse. But my issue is I dont know if I should strength train or not as I am worried that I’ll end up wairing myself out before the tournament. Also how much time is it ok to let pass between your warm-up and the time you actualy get there? I kinda want some outside perspective as I have alot riding on this tournament.
thanks for the tips. I will give that a shot. However I still think I should go through my forms a couple times to get my muscle memory going.
Im aware of the aspect of training my mind but I dont need help warming my mind up thats easy.
I was going to compete in the form parts of the tournament and not the sparring
To David N:
I have my own ways of warming up I just wanted 2 see what other people thought were good ways to warm up. Dont be an ass
