Benefits of descriptions of yoga, tae bo, etc.?

What are the descriptions and differences of the benefits of workouts like yoga, pilates, tai chi(sp), tae bo, and any other exercise like that your can think of? I’m thinking of doing some of these over the summer because I want to be more flexible and have more endurance for running track next year. Thanks :)
Oh and I read somewhere that one of these makes your kind of taller, which I don’t want at all. I want to have good posture but I am way tall enough. And I want abs. TIA!

Is high school sports more respectable than outside-of-school youth sports?

I was on the track team for only one season, and that is the only high school sport I was part of. All the other sports I did during that time were outside of school (taekwondo, hockey).

High school reunion is coming up and I have been contemplating. I’m experiencing a quarterlife crisis. It seems like so many people I know grew up playing sports for years and were high school athletes. They seem so successful and their personalities are very alpha. In contrast, I’m more beta. I regret not being part of the “jock culture.” I feel like I missed out on something big.

Do you think school sports is more respectable than non-school sports? Did I miss out big time by not being part of the “jock culture”? Is it afoul to say you were part of a high school sport when you only played one season?

Another running question pertaining to calf pain!?

Ok, on Sunday night I started running. To start off I jogged 16 times around the track, stopping each round for no more than a minute for a breather and drink of water. I thought I did surprisingly well considering my size (5’6 bodybuilder type, a very nice 180 lbs.) So I let my body heal for a couple of days and when I returned to the track last night I thought I’d kick it up a notch and go around by twos before taking a little time out… It was like somebody had blood pressure pumps around my calfs! I could only go around 5 times and had to stop. It was that bad. I am well winded, but the calf pain was unreal; more extreme than any weight training thats for sure. So many articles are out there in regards to running for weight loss and the pictures always show a skinny person that can run forever (much respect). I need a running program that takes my weight training and size into consideration. Help please!

P.S- My body is not stiff by any means. I train in taekwondo.

How can he run 2 miles under 17 minutes?

My son is 9 years old, he will be 10 in august. He is been in Taekwondo since he turned 4. He has been brown senor for past year. I kept him from testing because I thought he was to young to spar 3 brown belts and run 2 mile or 8 laps around the track loop.
He knows his weapons and all the moves by heart.Should I keep him from testing another year.He is always scared when he has to spar in class. Don’t get me wrong ,No one hurts him. He also has a special fiber glass helmet that I ordered for him.
Any ways , I need a plan . Should he sprint the first lap? Should he wear special bottom padded sneakers? Should he eat or drink something to give him energy? Should he take a pain reliever before running ,so he won’t feel pain? Please help me to help him. He worked very hard to get here, but he has a disadvantage been young. He doesn’t have the strenght of a teenage boy.His bones haven’t developed yet.
