  1. Asian food is on the whole much healthier than western fare…with a lot of vegetables, roots and fish.

BTW – Australia just led Hong Kong overall in the news today.

  3. I think it’s because of the Chinese diet and culture. Although there are very tempting fatty foods all along the streets, everything is eaten in small portions and in moderation. In addition, after eating greasy/oily foods, it is a tendancy to balance the foods by going to a tea house or drinking detoxifying herb drinks. All packaged snacks have less fat and sugar versus our US snacks…and fresh fruits and vegetables are also a part of their daily diet. All in all, it’s a lighter diet but with a higher salt content.

Special soups are made for dinner to assist in the diet. Example, if one has had too many greasy foods, there is a soup made for that. If one looks too skinny, there’s a soup to bring up the weight, and so on.

The younger generation always try to keep slim or as they say, “Keep Fit!” If one is overweight, he/she will be identified immediately whether in school, work, restaurants, etc., therefore, there is a lot of pressure to eat less, stay slim, and be like the rest of the crowd. Hope this helps.

  4. Genetics and eating habits. In my hometown we just had a man pass away who was believed to be the second oldest person living in the US. He was 114 years old. His parents had been slaves and lived through the civil war. What an amazing wealth of history he had and the changes that he saw as the years passed!
